Baragar Systems joins Univerus’ expanding portfolio of innovative software providers

Baragar Systems has become the newest addition to the Univerus group of businesses.

After four decades of success operating as a family-owned enterprise, the Baragar team decided to explore the prospect of acquisition as a way of growing the business further without sacrificing any of the elements that its existing customers know and love. Univerus was chosen ahead of numerous other potential investors.

Not only does Univerus have extensive resources at its disposal, but the team takes a transparent, hands-on approach to helping acquired businesses achieve their strategic goals.

Baragar was quickly able to identify clear synergies between the two software companies – both are based in British Columbia and have close ties to organizations in the public education sector.

In addition, there is also the attractive proposition of working with clients based further afield as part of Univerus’ operations throughout Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond.

Jason Curteis, President of Baragar Systems outlines the significance of the acquisition: “By joining the Univerus team, Baragar is gaining access to a wide range of resources that will enable the company to expand into exciting new markets while providing the same outstanding service to existing clients.”

In terms of the acquisition process itself, it could not have gone better as far as Baragar is concerned.

“We had a lot of investment firms interested in our business over the years, but Univerus stood out due to their authenticity and personable nature. Having spoken informally with the Univerus leadership team, I realized we had a lot in common, and the mutual understanding was there from the very start,” Curteis adds.

Both parties remained in close contact throughout the acquisition process, developing a strong relationship that will act as a solid foundation for the partnership going forward.

Univerus is certainly happy to have Baragar joining the team.

“Being able to work with a software and service provider of Baragar’s caliber is really exciting for us. We’ve already been able to identify lots of opportunities for collaboration with our existing business units, so I’m confident that Baragar will expand their customer base quickly following the acquisition,” comments Brad Atchison, CEO of Univerus.

“As well as bringing a new dimension to our software product offering, Baragar Systems will neatly complement some of our other solutions, most notably Univerus Sport & Recreation.”

Now that Baragar Systems has secured investment from Univerus, it will be in a position to accelerate the product development roadmap and venture into new markets, while maintaining the same exemplary standards of customer service that Baragar has become known for over the last 40 years.

The Baragar Systems leadership team will remain responsible for day-to-day operations as well as product development and expansion decisions. Although new employees may join the business as it grows, there are no immediate personnel changes planned and all existing team members will remain in their current roles.
